Triple Trusses Bailey Bridges/compact Panel Bridge


After a heavy rainstorm, Bailey bridges need to undergo a series of special inspections to ensure their safety and stability. The following are the inspection items that need to be focused on:


1. **Foundation inspection**
- **Inspect foundation settlement**: Heavy rain may cause uneven settlement of the foundation, especially the piers and abutments. Check whether the foundation has obvious sinking or tilting.
- **Inspect foundation stability**: Check whether there is water accumulation or hollowing caused by scouring around the foundation, and ensure that the foundation is firmly connected to the surrounding soil or structure.


2. **Bridge deck inspection**
- **Inspect bridge deck cracks**: Heavy rain may cause bridge decks to crack or deform, and the bridge decks need to be carefully inspected for new cracks, warping or displacement. If damaged, they should be replaced if necessary.
- **Inspect bridge deck drainage**: Ensure that the bridge deck drainage system is unobstructed to prevent water accumulation from further eroding the bridge deck.


3. **Structural inspection**
- **Inspect connectors**: Check whether the Bailey plate's connecting pins, bolts, beam clamps and other connectors are loose, detached or damaged. If it is loose, tighten or replace it in time.
- **Check the overall structural deformation**: Observe the overall shape of the bridge and check whether there is obvious deformation, twisting or tilting.
- **Check the wind-resistant tie rod**: Make sure the wind-resistant tie rod is firmly installed and not loose or damaged.


4. **Safety facility inspection**
- **Check the warning signs**: Check whether the warning signs at both ends of the bridge and on the bridge are complete and clear. If they are detached or damaged, they should be replenished and repaired in time.
- **Check the guardrail**: Check whether the guardrail is firm, whether it is damaged or deformed, and ensure that it can effectively prevent people and vehicles from falling.


5. **Drainage system inspection**
- **Check the drainage channel**: After the heavy rain, it is necessary to check whether the bridge deck drainage channel is unobstructed, clear the blockage in time, and prevent the accumulated water from further eroding the bridge foundation and structure.


6. **Other inspections**
- **Check the bridge deflection**: Use professional equipment to measure the mid-span deflection of the bridge to see if it has increased. Increased deflection may indicate that there are certain problems with the bridge structure, and further analysis of the cause and corresponding measures are needed.
- **Check the rust condition**: Heavy rain may cause the metal parts of the bridge to rust, which needs to be checked and anti-rust treatment is carried out in time.
